1960's Black Silk Satin Onyx Bugle Beads on Woven Floral Design Vintage Cocktail Wiggle Dress
1960's Silk Satin Fitted Sheath Dress has a woven jacquard asian floral design on which the jet black bugle beads are hand stitched to follow the lines of the flowers. The beads on this dress are plentiful to say the least and it is the abundance of them in any one area that adds dimension and depth to the texture, and juxtaposed against the open areas of shiny satin, allows one to take in the exotic floral design with appreciation for the craftsmanship. This is what I love most about artistic use and placement of beads, and when you use them, don't skimp, let there be no space between the beads, mean it when you place them, that's what I see in this dress; intentional and deliberate use of beads without over doing it, a balance not easily acheived and one that requires careful hand placement of each bead onto the base pattern that lies beneath. One last comment on this, the beads follow, without totally covering, the jacquard stitching in the fabric......ok I'll stop now, hopefully the close-up images will provide the visual that I have attempted to convey with words. The fitted sheath silhouette is sophisticated with the sleevless bodice, scoop neckline in front and deep 'V' in back. One of the best beaded dresses I've come across in my hours and miles of searching. Purchased from the original owner, a 'joyful' soul who bears the very name that describes her personality.
This dress is fully lined with black light weight silk and zips up the rear with a metal zipper.
