1940's Crepe with Crochet Open Work Lace Bodice Fishtail Sweep Skirt Vintage Gown, Gimbel's

1940's truly amazing Black Crepe Gown has Three Dimensional Embroidered Crochet Lace Work on the upper bodice, 24 tiny working covered buttons down the front and a fishtail sweep skirt. This gown comes to us from the original family and has been lovingly stored all these years. The sleeveless bodice is sultry with sheer netting behind the crochet work for a hint of decolletage beneath the sheerness, from here the lower bodice is pleated on each side at the bust. The dress cinches in beginning at the upper waist with princess seams that extend down the length of the dress in front. The fishtail skirt in back is pleated with 3 large box pleats for a gentle fullness that hangs straight down, no bustle effect, more like a mermaid. Unbeleivable, my words do not do this dress justice at all, it is truly amazing, in this condition from the oringinal family, a rarity.

The dress is unlined and goes on over the head. We photographed it on the hanger to avoid putting any stress on the dress by working it onto the dress form.

The label states, 'Custom Made Gimbel Brothers, Pittsburgh'.

Condition: Excellent, the lace shows slight signs of yellowing from age, we have not attempted to clean. This does not at all take away from the over all look of the gown, it is exquisite.
